Aberdeen Highland Games

Keith Miles - Chieftain of the Day 2010

Keith Miles has come from one of the original settling families of the Rouchel district outside Aberdeen, NSW. He is the fifth generation, stemming from the McMullin family, to live at 'Bingeberry', Rouchel. The McMullin Family has always been noted for its cattle breeding, and to this day, Keith runs the Bingeberry stud, and is a well recognised judge and breeder of Hereford cattle. He is currently president of Herefords Australia. His grandmother's family the Campbell's emigrated from Scotland in 1830's, settling on the property, Arden Hall, on the Hunter River, where the Glenbawn Dam is now situated.

Following schooling at Rouchel Public School, Keith attended The Scots College, Sydney. He was a member of The Scots College Pipe Band that was invited to perform at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 1973. It was the first time a school band had been invited to participate at this most prestigious event. After leaving school and returning home, Keith has been involved with the Upper Hunter Pipes & Drums in Muswellbrook and currently with the Scone RSL Pipes & Drums.

Keith has been a great supporter of the games, and has on a number of occasions been involved with the selection of the winners of the McMullin Shield for the band with the best display on the day of the games.

Keith and his wife Gillian have five children, Larissa, Philip, Sarah, Tamara and Kenneth.

Donald and his wife, Maida, have three sons, Donald Og, Florian, Louis and two daughters Iona, Marina. When not assigned to a foreign location, all live at their Kirton Farm in Balquhidder Glen.

The Coat of Arms of MacLaren of MacLaren and Achleskine is reserved solely for the use of the Chief.

The 'crest badge' consisting of the belted MacLaren Chief's Crest with laurel leaves and the motto 'Creag an Tuirc' on the belt is worn by all clan members.
