What's Happening?
The 11th annual Aberdeen Highland Games is shaping up to be one of the best. The changes made last year to the beginning of the programme worked extremely well so we are continuing with the Grand Parade within the grounds again this year. As with last year you will need to make sure you are in the grounds by the Parade starting time in order to fully enjoy the experience.
To facilitate quick entry into the grounds we encourage you to prepay your tickets. Another bonus of prepayment is the discount price we are able to offer these at. Pre-paid tickets are $12 for Adults, $8 for Child/Concessions & $30 for a Family - the order form to purchase these tickets is further on in the programme, or see our website for further details. Tickets can still be bought at the gate on the day. These are offered at $15 for Adults, $10 for Children/Concessions & $35 for Families.
The committee is again fortunate to have secured the hosting of the Australian Tug of War Titles. Teams will travel from all over Australia to compete for the National Championship Title. Come and watch the teams pit themselves against one another or grab a few friends, fill out the form in the programme and enter the annual Dairy Farmers Tug of War Challenge.
In conjunction with the Australian Defence Force the committee is honoured to welcome back the Federation Guard. The ceremonial drill team of the ADF were participants in the recent Edinburgh Military Tattoo held in Sydney and will mesmerise you with their precision drill movements. Honoured Guests for the 2010 Games are Keith Miles, as chieftain and Donald MacLaren of MacLaren, chief of that clan.
Please check our web site for further detail and any changes. It is also recommended that you go to the linked site of the Scottish Australian Heritage Council for details of their week of Scottish activities that lead up to the games. Further in the programme you will find what is happening in the Upper Hunter in the week preceding the games.
As we head into our second decade of running the Games we look forward to seeing you on the day!
